[music] I am Justice Deepakma, former judge of Supreme Court of India. I am originally from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh and presently based in New Delhi where I’m engaged in full-time arbitral practice and act act as an expert in Indian law.

My journey is almost about 60 years from now because I was registered in 1972 as an advocate. Then I started my practice in the in the high court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpuru. That’s a principal seat. Then I I was appointed as a judge of the high court of high court of Madhya Pradesh in 1994. that is after 22 years of my practice I became a judge and then I was a judge then as a judge I was transferred to high court of Karnataka where I was also acting

chief justice for one month and thereafter I was finally transferred as regular chief justice to high court of Rajasthan that was I I believe in the month of March 2020 2029 9 sorry it was 1 one 9 199 1997 and then for one judge I one year I was a judge there and then I was transferred as in the Supreme Court as as judge of the Supreme Court in 2009 and from there I finally retired as a judge of the Supreme Court in 2012 and ever since

then I am in regular practice of arbitration And I am also giving several opinions in international law also pertaining to Indian law and also to many many many persons who may be of great importance for themselves not for me. I give them the opinion because I’m paid for that.

that my strong and dynamic team at chambers of retired the deep karma part takes a holistic approach in working towards arbitral disputes and assist me in framing final and intrim awards in such pro proceedings. Additionally the team also assists me in analyzing the facts of the matter. They send the whatever they have read to me. I I look at them. I make correction. I again send it back to them so that final draft can be prepared and that’s a very very uphill task it is you know because in

each of the arbitration matters some some of in some of them that there are almost 12,000 to 25,000 pages 12,000 to 25,000 pages in one arbitration how do I do when do I read so I have a team of my very able and Grand associates who are my eyes and ears and they keep my shoulders strong.

In my capacity as an arbitrator, I interact not with individual clients but with the dispute disputing parties and their learned council. Over the course over the course of arbitral career I have been associated with more than 268 arbitration matters so far ever since I started in 2012 and I have also been associated with leading domestic and international arbitral institution including the Singapore international arbitration center international chamber of commerce beyond arbitration I have been appointed as an expert witness by various foreign international courts including the permanent court of arbitration at the H

and and I have preided in more than 75 arbitration matters precided. Madam, it is very difficult to pinpoint any particular matter because by now I must have decided as a judge of the high court of various places and then also as a judge of the Supreme Court thousand and thousands of cases I can’t pinpoint but one case which I I recolct which will which may be of importance that is a case of PUCL PDS versus Union of India along with my Leonard colleague and brother judges that was with regard to

question of supply of food grain [clears throat] to to the needy persons who were holding the cards at that time. That was one of the great achievement that we could we could distribute the essential food items to various persons who were in need of food. means on equal basis so that whosoever was holding the card they will get some certain amount of food at at a very very nominal price
