Synergize GBA series: Personal data protection in Greater Bay Area – compliance strategies for navigating the new data protection laws in Mainland China and Hong Kong

New data privacy laws were recently launched in Mainland China and Hong Kong  

The Personal Information Protection Law in the Mainland China introduced a broad data privacy protection framework which includes stringent requirements on the collection, use and retention of personal data as well as restrictions on cross-border transfers, while the Personal Data (Privacy) (Amendment) Ordinance 2021 in Hong Kong criminalized unauthorized disclosures of personal data causing specified harm and introduced sweeping investigation and enforcement powers for unauthorized disclosures.  

As part of the Synergize GBA series, Ernst & Young Advisory Services Limited and LC Lawyers LLP hosted a seminar on personal data protection in the Greater Bay Area on 13 December 2021, where Kareena Teh and Philip Kwok of LC Lawyers LLP highlighted the key issues and priorities for companies doing business in the Greater Bay Area while Vincent Chan and Alan Lee of Ernst & Young Advisory Services Limited shared some compliance strategies and solutions for navigating the new data privacy laws in Mainland China and Hong Kong.
