If you’re launching a crypto casino or a sports betting platform and you need a license quickly to start signing software contracts and testing your product with real players, Tobique’s faster turnaround is genuinely valuable. You’re not trying to enter the UK market; you’re trying to build a working operation before committing to a six-figure EU licensing process.
Operators in markets where Curaçao’s reputation has become a liability. Curaçao has faced significant regulatory pressure and reputational damage in recent years. Some payment processors and affiliates have started flagging Curaçao-licensed operators as higher risk. Tobique, being a newer and less saturated jurisdiction, hasn’t accumulated the same baggage yet.
Crypto-native gaming platforms. The Tobique framework has been relatively accommodating of crypto-based gambling models, something that continues to create friction in many EU frameworks. The headline figure for the Tobique gaming license cost tends to circulate in the range of USD $17,500 to $25,000 for the initial license application and issuance fee. That number is real, but it’s incomplete. Here’s what the total cost picture looks like based on what we’ve tracked across client engagements:
Initial license fee: The base license fee sits in the USD $17,500–$25,000 range, depending on the license category (casino, sports betting, or combined). This is the fee paid directly to the Tobique Gaming Authority.
Annual renewal fee: Expect annual renewal costs in the range of USD $10,000–$15,000. Some operators budget closer to $12,000 for a standard renewal, but this can vary based on the scope of your operation and whether you’ve expanded your product offering since the initial grant.
Company formation costs: The Tobique license requires an associated corporate structure. Most operators set up a company in a compatible offshore jurisdiction, common choices include BVI, Seychelles, or an existing Curaçao entity.
